“Well, would you look at that, a little fishy. I’ll stick around and play, if you promise not to splash me…”
“Not fond of the water, then? How unfortunate.”
“Well babe, never met a scorpion who could swim, have you?”
“Never too late to learn, I always say.”
“What if it’s just plain not in my nature?”
“Nature is made to change, Scorpion dear.”
“Well, would you look at that, a little fishy. I’ll stick around and play, if you promise not to splash me…”

“Oh, I haven’t broken any rules, have I?”
“There’s a sense of adventure, and a sense of self-preservation. As it happens, I have both, so even though I’m curious, I’d as soon stay away from whatever you’ve got lurking over there.”
Siren kept her eyes closed and didnt say a word. It had seemed she had fallen asleep. Small waves started up in her pool, which rocked her body and pushed her to the shallow end. Little fish swam around Merrywoods feet, nipping at her tights. The creatures in the pool seemed a lot more active now that Siren was assumingly asleep.
Looking down at the tiny fish swarming around her, Merrywood frowned. They seemed harmless enough, but for all she knew, they really weren’t. Glancing back over at Siren, she realized that the carny seemed to have fallen asleep. “…Siren…?” she asked quietly, not wanting to disturb the pool’s inhabitants too much. She took a few more steps back, planning to get out of the pool.
It had almost seemed the pool was alive, the waves intensifying, the creatures stirring more violently as Merrywood moved through the water. A group of seaweed wrapped itself around her legs, multiple small, poisonous jellyfish outlined the shallow end of the pool.

She watched Siren closely for a minute, a thoughtful smile on her face. Something she’d said had made the carny uncomfortable; that was new. Merrywood would definitely have to revisit that later. “Well, thank you,” she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Noting the obvious sarcasm, Siren rolled her eyes. “Have you no sense of adventure, chum? Quite the bore…” Sitting back into the water, she scooted in deeper, until it creeped to her chin, closing her eyes in a moment of comfort.
